Classroom teaching documents

In class, our group of four members was tasked with analyzing and categorizing the features of a travel mobile application. Each member is assigned to present why the app’s features are divided into specific categories and explain the rationale behind the categorization.

Then we divided it into seven major categories. Mainly allocated based on functional attributes, such as scheduling in one category, recommendation information in one category, payment and shopping cart in one group, and so on.

GROUP ACTIVITY
ะขะžะ ะ†ะก  (Travel Planning Mobile App)
SCENARIO  (You are designing a mobile app that helps users plan and organize their travel itineraries efficiently.)
PURPOSE  (The travel planning app is designed to help users plan their trips, organize itineraries, and manage travel details in a convenient and interactive way.)

Hospital app

Then the teacher asked us to continue exploring how other software can allocate functions more comprehensively. Our group has chosen to allocate functions for medical software, and the homepage will consist of recommended hospital information and appointment consultations. Then, the purchase of medication, medical treatment, physical examination, and medical history records will be grouped together for easy viewing and patients to follow the prompts. Medical insurance payments are classified separately, with medical knowledge popularization and intelligent services being grouped together.

Week 6

When analyzing the shortcomings of Baidu by comparing it with other software for the project, we can consider how to redesign and improve Baidu’s functionality layout. The green sections will represent Baidu’s existing features, while the red sections will indicate the features I plan to add later.

The Importance of Survey Questionnaires in Software Design

1. User Experience (UX) and Business Value
High-quality user experience can significantly boost user satisfaction and loyalty, as well as improve sales and competitiveness in the market. When users cannot find the information they need, about 50% of potential sales may be lost.
2. Essence of User Experience Research
UX research employs various observation and feedback collection methods to understand user behaviors, needs, and attitudes. Effective UX research requires the appropriate methods at each stage of product development, spanning from conceptual design through to launch.
3. Core Process of UX Research
UX research involves five key steps: defining objectives, forming hypotheses, selecting methods, conducting the research, and analyzing results. The goal is to fill knowledge gaps, validate assumptions, and identify design opportunities.
4. Qualitative and Quantitative Research
Qualitative research explores user behaviors and motivations through interviews and observation, providing in-depth insights into user emotions and needs. Quantitative research, on the other hand, uses online surveys and analytics tools to generate statistical data that supports evidence-based design decisions.
5. Research Methods and Tools
Interviews, online surveys, card sorting, information architecture, and user personas are commonly used UX research methods. Each method has its strengths and weaknesses, and the right tools should be chosen based on specific needs.
6. User Experience Testing
Usability testing helps evaluate product usability by observing users as they perform specific tasks, identifying potential obstacles. Effective testing requires clear objectives, suitable participants, and a detailed list of tasks.
7. Avoiding Leading Questions
When designing surveys and interviews, avoid leading questions to ensure that the collected feedback is genuine and unbiased.
8. Continuous Feedback and Iteration
UX research is integrated throughout the product lifecycle, from early concept validation to post-launch feedback collection, enabling teams to continuously refine product designs based on user insights.

This week's task is to create a UI design document using Google Sheets. This survey questionnaire needs to include information about the user group of the application you are targeting, as well as usage frequency, usage functions, etc.

The teacher originally required us to conduct an online survey with 50 interviews, but we reported to him that we didn't know that many classmates. He kindly stated that only 35 people are enough.

Design three virtual characters based on the common characteristics of the survey subjects, namely the Student Party and the Work Party, who all need to use Baidu in their daily lives

Below is a detailed Baidu user journey map, which is divided into six sections, and provides Customer Actions, Touch Points, Needs & Pains, Emotional Curve and Possible Solutions for each section.
User Flow Diagram

1. Logging In and Personalized Recommendations

After downloading and opening Baidu, the user clicks on “Log In” to access their account. Based on their past activities and preferences, Baidu provides personalized smart recommendations. For example, if the user searches for a specific type of restaurant or cuisine, Baidu suggests popular nearby options based on location, ratings, and user reviews.

2. Searching and Smart Filtering

The user enters keywords related to their desired restaurant or cuisine. Baidu’s intelligent search displays a list of relevant restaurants, sorted by criteria like rating, distance, and price range. The user can apply filters (e.g., “Nearest,” “Highest Rated,” or “Special Offers”) to quickly pinpoint their ideal restaurant.

3. Browsing Restaurant Information

After selecting a restaurant, the user accesses its detail page to view essential information, including operating hours, menu, address, photos, and customer reviews. They can also use the “Contact Staff” button on the page to call or chat with the restaurant to make a reservation or inquire about specific needs (e.g., private rooms or special dishes).

4. Navigating to the Restaurant

Once the reservation is confirmed, Baidu Maps generates the optimal route to the restaurant, offering detailed navigation options (walking, driving, or public transit). Real-time traffic updates ensure the user arrives on time.

5. Dining and Payment

Upon arriving at the restaurant, the user follows their reservation details to place their order. Baidu’s QR code dining feature allows the user to scan a table code to view the menu and place orders directly via their phone. This streamlines the ordering process and provides real-time updates on the status of their dishes.

6. Reviewing and Sharing

After the meal, Baidu sends a prompt inviting the user to leave a review. The user can rate the restaurant based on service, food quality, and ambiance, and write detailed comments. If the restaurant offers promotions, the user can upload photos or videos of their dining experience to share with the Baidu community and interact with other users.

Week10

Homework requirements:
For digital card sorting, here are suggestions to approach this task efficiently:

Option 1: Use Optimal Workshop First
Conduct a card-sorting activity on Optimal Workshop to gather initial data.
Identify cards with a less-than-100% agreement rate (indicating differing user opinions).
Import these selected cards into UX Tweak, and involve 7 respondents for further insights on re-categorization.
Analyze the UX Tweak results to refine your structure.

Option 2: Start Directly with UX Tweak
Narrow your cards to 20 key ones, focusing on those requiring re-categorization, restructuring, or that act as wildcards.
Use UX Tweak to directly test these cards with respondents, bypassing the initial Optimal Workshop step.
Collect feedback and refine categories based on the data.

Recommendation:
Choose Option 2 if time or resources are limited, as it provides a streamlined process. Opt for Option 1 if you want a more thorough, two-step validation of your card categories.
